SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Al Penn-White scored on a 1-yard plunge with 1:22 left to give the San Antonio Gunslingers a 14-10 victory over the Oakland Invaders and their first USFL win before 11,012 fans. Penn-White, who was cut once by the Gunslingers this season, had set up the score with a 3-yard dive tor a first down at the one.

Kevin Shea put the winless Invaders ahead 10-7 when he kicked a 36-yard field goal with 7:46 left in the third quarter. It was Shea's first field goal of the year and the first time Oakland had scored in the second half this season.

Rick Neuheisel hit Joey Hackett on a 9-yard scoring pass with 3:11 left in the first half to tie the game at 7-7.

The drive started at the San Antonio 48 after an 18-yard punt by Stan Talley. The Gunslingers kept the drive alive when Putt Choate raced 25 yards with a fake punt on 4th-and-19 from the Oakland 47.

Neuheisel hit Bonner with a 16-yard pass and two plays later connected with Hackett.

The Invaders jumped to a 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game when Fred Besana connected with Gordon Banks on a 19-yard toss. Besana hit 5 of 6 passes for 43 yards during the 46-yard drive.

Besana connected on 19 of 34 passes for 154 yards and Banks had six receptions for 81 yards as the Invaders fell to 0-5.

Neuheisel connected on 13 of 26 passes lor 156 yards. Hackett pulled in three passes for 45 yards and Bonner grabbed four for 45 yards.
