"1986: The USFL/NFL Antitrust Suit $1 Jury Confusion"
After the $1 verdict came down in July, the attorneys for the USFL were planning appeals before the judge decided on why the jury awarded only $1 in damages concerning the leagues antitrust suit against the NFL.
The attorney for the NFL Frank Rothman was confident that the lawsuit was all but over and the league could go back to business as usual. As for the USFL there was no more life left for the three year league.
For some USFL players it was an urgent decison whether to wait for the appeals process to take its course or bolt to the NFL. But other players like Jim Kelly whose contract was guaranteed at least for the '86 non playing season, he could afford to wait another year and sign on with any NFL club.
