"USFL Quarterbacks Out of Work in 1986"
For Jim Kelly and Doug Flutie life was pretty good considering they had signed guaranteed contracts with Donald Trump should the USFL had not played the '86 season if the league failed to win big with their anti trust suit against the NFL which they didn't. The Houston Gamblers and NJ Generals had merged when the "Donald" bought the Gamblers from owner Jerry Argovitz.
Unfortunately for players such as Invaders QB Fred Besana and Stars QB Chuck Fusina they were not so lucky. Besana went back to his beer selling business giving up the game he loved while Fusina waited for the telephone to ring from any NFL team that might give him a shot.
