Description

This short interview between ESPN's Jim Simpson and Charlie Sumner (the Invaders new head coach for the '85 season) took place during halftime of the Michigan Panthers vs Oakland Invaders Saturday night game.

Most of Charlies answers were short and to the point. Jim congratulates him on being named head coach. He asks how much input does he have currently since his position doesn't start until the following season. Also looking ahead with player personnel decisions, his confidence in the league and the happiness on his face being named the new head coach.

The Invaders began the year 0-9, scoring a paltry 82 points in the first half of the year. Chuck Hutchinson was named interim coach in week four, but it took the Invaders until the tenth week to get going. Oakland then reeled off seven straight wins to finish with a respectable record thanks in large part to doubling their scoring in the second half of the year and a defense that was tough the whole season.
